Making a Meme

9m6dt

The meme that I have created works well because it follows the same sentence structure as all similar memes as well has a struggle. The context to the meme is to illustrate a certain struggle that is not easy to the majority of the targeted audience. It also works in the sense that the book and movie “The Fault in Our Stars” is one of the most highly anticipated movies of the summer, where hype about the movie has been generated since December. That is, that anything related to the movie in any sense will catch the audience attention and make the connection to it instantly. Even people that know the just of the movie will be able to understand the meme, as there is so much knowledge about what happens and how other people are reacting, for them to find the meme just as comical.
In my case of the meme, the targeted audience is teenaged girl readers that have been in love with this book before the movie was announced. To understand this meme, is to understand how a teenaged girl would read this book and react to it or what their first comment on the book would be. By acknowledging that this is a sad romantic book that has practically every reader and now viewer crying by the end of the book and/ or movie is to know the comedic value behind the meme. This community is referred to more as a fandom that follows the actors and author vigorously, falling in love with the actors and characters that were created in the story. They know everything that needs should be known about the movie, about the main characters, and even about the actors because they care so much about the book.
This meme illustrates the struggle that every viewer or reader has when watching or reading the movie. Similar to Titanic where people consistently all cried at the scene when Jack dies, people collectively cry in this movie when Hazel and Augustus find love, and when Augustus dies before Hazel. To say that you do not feel any emotion while watching the movie is to say that you do not feel any compassion or empathy for the characters, that you view their love as nothing and cannot see the struggle and hardship that everyone else feels for the characters.
The meme has the same structure as the original in which it starts off with the original “One does not simply” and ends with a quick end that lasts no more than two lines that demonstrate a struggle of some sort in a sarcastic manner. As well the picture of the character that says the line in Lord of the Rings originally, stays in the picture as well to demonstrate that it is a meme and to show the comedic side of a sad love story.
To create my meme was very simple. I went to memegenerate.net, click ‘generate a meme’, chose the meme that I wanted and typed the caption that I intended on using. There was not much tools used for this as all that was needed was a computer with Internet access. As well the process was very straight forward, and luckily the meme that I wanted to use was one of the top choices given, and a search for a meme template was not needed. To know the template of what to say was a bit of a process, as I had to look at other similar memes to figure out the structure of the statement to ensure that the caption would flow with the picture and the audience would be able to make the connection.
